Tantawi testimony in Mubarak trial postponed to 24 September, due to "fragile security"
Published in Ahram Online on 11 - 09 - 2011

As the sixth session of ousted president Mubarak's trial continues in camera, sources say the crucial testimony of Field Marshal Tantawi, which was due to today, has been postponed
Sources close to the Mubarak trial say that presiding Judge Ahmed Refaat has decided to postpone the testimony of Field Marshall Tantawi to a later session on September 24. Equally, the testimony of Chief of Staff Sami Annan is to be postponed to a September 25 session. They were both schedueled to testify today and tomorrow but, according to sources, have asked the court for a postponement due the "fragile security situation" in the country.
Earlier, Ahram Online had received unconfirmed reports to the effect that head of the Supreme Military Council and Minister of Defence Field Marshal Mohamed Tanatwai will not, in fact, be appearing in today's session of the trial of the ousted president, as scheduled by the court.
In its last session, the Cairo Criminal Court trying the case had subpoenaed Tantawi, along with Chief of Staff Sami Enan, former Vice President and Intelligence Chief, Omar Soliman, former Minister of Interior Mahmoud Wagdy and current Interior Minister Ibrahim El-Essawy.
Tantawi is to give testimony as to Mubarak's culpability in the killing of peaceful protesters during Egypt's 25 January Revolution. Egypt's interim ruler had gone on record as saying, in a public speech, that the armed forces had refused to comply with orders to shoot at the protesters, which lawyers for the martyr's families consider sufficient to, perhaps literally, hang the ousted president.
