Egypt keeps position in nearly unchanged FIFA rankings
Egypt remains in the same position in the global rankings and sit in fifth place among African countries
Published in Ahram Online on 05 - 05 - 2016

Egypt remains in 44th place of the FIFA global football rankings that were published on 5 May.
Not a single position changed for the top 50, with Argentina still in the lead ahead of Belgium, Chile, Colombia and Germany.
The Pharaohs remained 5th among African countries first class, after Algeria (33), Ivory Coast (34), Ghana (38) and Senegal (44).
Egypt's last game was on 28 March in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers against Nigeria, beating the Super Eagles 1-0 before an enthusiastic crowd at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium, all but assuring their qualification for the tournament finals in Gabon.
The seven-time African champions are at the top of Group G of the qualifiers with seven points, five ahead of the second placed Nigeria.
Egypt has failed to reach Africa's showpiece tournament for the last three editions in a row, the first time it has missed at least two consecutive tournaments since failing to qualify for the 1965 and 1968 CAN.
The Pharaohs made it into the world's top 10 when they won three successive CAN trophies, in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
In May's rankings, only slight position changes were made with Laos (176) who were the best movers jumping six positions while Kuwait were the worst, falling a full 14 places.
