The Cairo-Assiut highway as well as the rail route connecting Cairo with Upper Egypt were blocked for several hours overnight as a result of a sit-in by hundreds of truck drivers In Badrashin, Giza, along the railway route, hundreds of truck drivers staged the sit-in after some individuals built commercial shops on a piece of state-owned land where the drivers used to park their vehicles. The protesting drivers called on authorities to order the immediate removal of the newly built shops. Representatives of the army and police eventually coaxed the drivers into ending their sit-in. The drivers agreed to disperse after it was agreed upon that some of their representatives would meet with the governor today to discuss the situation.
