Sudan's Hilal, who reached the semi-final last year, were surprisingly eliminated from the round of 32 despite beating Libya's Ahli Tripoli 2-1 at home. They waved goodbye to Africa's elite competition on the away goal rule following a 2-2 aggregate draw. Algeria's MO Bejaia set up a mouthwatering last 16 clash against Egypt's Zamalek after beating Tunisia's Club Africain 2-0 at home for a 2-1 aggregate win while Cameroon's Cotonsport bowed out 2-1 on aggregate despite beating Stade Malien 1-0 in the second leg. Ivory Coast's ASEC Mimosas went through 1-0 on aggregate after a goalless draw at home to South Africa's Kaizer Chiefs and AS Vita club prevailed 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw away to Mozambique's Ferroviaro de Maputo.
