Elmohamady's Sunderland lose to Newcastle Ahmed Elmohamady's Sunderland slump to their first English Premier League defeat this season after losing 1-0 to Newcastle United on Saturday
Ryan Taylor's second-half free kick gave Newcastle a 1-0 win over fierce local rival Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday. Taylor's inswinging delivery from the left evaded everyone in the box, sailing over Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet's outstretched arm and into the top corner in the 62nd minute. Newcastle felt it should have been ahead already after Sebastian Larsson used his arm to keep out Joey Barton's goal-bound header in the first half, but referee Howard Webb gave a corner. Sunderland had defender Phil Bardsley was sent off late on after receiving a second yellow card for a two-footed tackle on Fabricio Coloccini. Egyptian winger Ahmed Elmohamady was included in Sunderland's starting line-up. He initially played on the left flank in the team's 4-5-1 formation before switching to the right at the halfway mark. The former ENPPI man was replaced in the 71st minute, making way for Craig Gardner. Elmohamady set up a goal as Sunderland held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in their Premier League opener last week. His pinpoint cross found Sebastian Larsson at the far post to send a superb volley past keeper Jose Reina.
