Tunisia have defeated Libya 30-18 Thursday afternoon in the first day of the 2016 African Handball Cup of Nations taking place in Cairo, Egypt, between 21 and 30 January. The Eagles of Carthagewon the first half 16-7 before they took full control of the second. Favourites Tunisia are competing in group B alongside Kenya, DR Congo, Libya, Congo-Brazzaville, and Angola. Angola surprised Kenya 42-16 earlier Thursday. "Tunisia have prepared very well for the championship," the Tunisian Handball Federation vice president Reda Al-Manai told the tournament's website, adding "Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria are the favourite candidates to win the title," Hosts Egypt are in group A, beside Algeria, Morocco, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Gabon. Nigeria won 42-15 against Cameroon earlier. Following the official opening ceremony, the Pharaohs are kicking-off their bid later Thursday evening with a very tough game against rivals Algeria. The best four teams from each group will compete in a knock-out quarterfinals stage. The African champions will represent the continent at the Olympics while the three first teams will qualify for next year's World Championship in France.
