Ivory Coast's Tiote swears he will stay at Newcastle Ivory Coast midfielder Cheik Tiote committing himself to Newcastle, ruling out reports linking him with a move to Chelsea
Ivory Coast and Newcastle midfielder Cheik Tiote has ruled out reports linking him with a move to English Premier League giants Chelsea this summer, revealing that he is happy with the Magpies. "I am a Newcastle player and I will do my job in there,” Tiote was quoted as saying in the Evening Chronicle. The 25-year-old Ivorian star is reported to be a summer transfer target for Chelsea, who showed an interest in signing him to replace Michael Essien who is out for up to six months with knee ligament damage. The Ivory Coast international centre midfielder joined Newcastle last summer in a £3.5 million deal, coming from Dutch side FC Twente. After being pleasantly surprised at the speed at which he acclimatised to life in the Premier League, Newcastle extended Tiote's stay for another six and a half years last February, keeping him at Newcastle until 2017. "I have a contract and that is the most important thing for me. I'm happy - if I wasn't happy, I wouldn't have signed for six years," the Ivorian added.
