At least three people were killed when a dilapidated building collapsed early Wednesday in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, Ahram Arabic news website reported. Two survivors were pulled from the rubble as rescue workers continued to dig through the debris to find more survivors. The derelict four-storey building, located in Alexandria's eastern Abu-Kir district, caved in due to huge cracks in the structure, provincial security official Omar Gab Allah, told Ahram Arabic. Building collapses are commonplace in Egypt and are usually due to violations of building specifications, illegal extensions, and lax construction. In September, At least four people were killed when a residential building collapsed in the governorate of Assiut, south of Cairo. In May, six people of the same family, including three children, died in a separate building collapse, also in Assiut. Alexandria was hit by heavy rains this week, causing some streets and homes to flood due to the city's poorly-maintained infrastructure and drainage systems. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/162058.aspx
