MANSURA - At least five people were killed and 12 injured when an apartment building collapsed in the Delta Governorate of Mansura early Sunday, police sources said. The bodies of the five victims were discovered in the debris of the six-storey building in the Western District in the centre of Mansura City, some 120km northwest of Cairo. According to the sources, the landlord had been conducting renovation works before the collapse of the building. All the inhabitants except for one family of two in the apartment block had been evacuated before the incident, said the sources. The area was cordoned off and rescue teams rushed to the site to search for victims or survivors who may be trapped under the rubble, they added. Rescue workers have dug out five bodies from under the rubble early yesterday after the incident. Prosecutors have issued warrants for the arrest of a number of people linked to the collapse, including the man who owned the building.
