Spanish La Liga outfit Valencia confirmed on their Twitter account that their former Argentina star Pablo Aimar has retired from football aged 35. After being dropped from the Argentina squad for the Copa Libertadores match, Pablo Aimar, who had been capped 52 times by Argentina, decided to retire from professional football. "One of the players most admired by Valencia fans, Pablo Aimar, retires from football. Thanks Aimar," Valencia wrote on their official Twitter account. The 35-year-old veteran playmaker Aimar, who won two La Liga titles under Rafa Benitez and also had seasons at Real Zaragoza and Benfica, had seen action for current club River Plate only twice this season due to chronic ankle problems. He was also left out of Argentina coach Marcelo Gallardo's squad for the next Copa Libertadores match. "They told me I wasn't going to be on the list for the Copa Libertadores, and I understand," Aimar wrote in his farewell letter to teammates. "I don't want to occupy a place that definitely should be for others. "Because of this, I decided to stop playing professionally. I will be cheering you on from the stands. I hope that you achieve all that you deserve. One day soon I will stop by to thank you personally for the way you have all treated me," the veteran playmaker said.
