Interview with Al-Ahram led the IGA to question Heikal about Mubarak's wealth
Writer had suggested he had evidence that could prove the extent of Mubarak's fortune

Prominent Egyptian thinker and writer Mohamed Hassanein Heikal was questioned by the Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) because of an interview he gave regarding the wealth of ousted president Hosni Mubarak, said the IGA head Essam El-Gohary in a statement.
The statement was released after Heikal was questioned this morning at the IGA headquarters. Heikal had given an interview to the Al-Ahram newspaper in which he said that he has documents to prove that Mubarak's wealth is between $9 and $11 billion, which led the IGA to begin questioning him.
El-Gohary said that Heikal was questioned about the documents and if he has any evidence that could shed light on Mubarak's wealth.
During the questioning, however, Heikal said that he got his information from published international reports and that it is the job of the IGA to find the truth. In the interview in Al-Ahram, Heikal had said that he read the above figures in reports by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the World Bank.
In the statement, El-Gohary said that the authority needs solid and legal evidence in order for the investigation to progress. He added that it is not right for the media to throw figures of Mubarak's wealth around because people believe that these figures are accurate. He also asked anyone who has documents or information that could help the investigation of the IGA to come forward.
