Egyptian Minister of Tourism Mounir Abdel Nour asked the Japanese ambassador to Egypt, Norihiro Okuda, to reduce Japan's travel warning for Egypt. Japan currently has assigned a Level 2 travel warning, which means that it is preferred that no trips to Egypt are planned and that any organized trip is the responsibility of the tourist company. The request came at a meeting between Abdel Nour and Okuda about the travel warning. During the meeting Abdel Nour stressed the deep ties between the two countries in various sectors, especially tourism, where 126,393 Japanese tourists visited Egypt in 2010, a 36.8% jump from 2009. Okuda said that despite the difficulties Egypt is faced after the revolution, which affected the cooperation between Japan and Egypt, he believes the situation will improve in the long run. He added that he understands how important tourism revenue is to the Egyptian economy, but stressed that many Japanese tourists are still concerned about the security situation in Egypt. Okuda also said the Japanese embassy will send a group of representatives to Egypt's major tourist sites to analyze the situation.
