Campaign secures funds for Egyptian child's surgery in London
Abdel-Rahman Ahmad Selim, 4, needs a series of operations on his bladder and kidney

A charitable campaign launched by the Egyptian community in the UK has managed to raise funds needed for urgent surgical procedures to save the life of an Egyptian child in London.
Abdel-Rahman Ahmad Selim, 4, needs a series of operations to "reconstruct the bladder neck" and "laparoscopic right nephroureterectomy."
To be admitted to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, a deposit of £25,400 had to be paid in advance.
The admission, which was scheduled on 4 April, was delayed when Mr Salem, the child's father, said he could not afford the money.
At the request of Egyptian House (EH) and the father, the hospital opened a special bank account for fund raising.
EH, a social club in London, conducted an email and social campaign for donations.
“The campaign managed to raise £27,000,” the hospital confirmed.
Abdel-Rahman will be admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, it said.
“The charitable campaign has now stopped as no more money is needed,” Mostafa Ragab, EH's director, told Ahram Online.
He confirmed that except for one payment of about £4,000 which came from Egypt, all donations came from donors in the UK.
According to Dr Imran Mushtaq, consultant pediatric urologist, the child's right kidney and ureter need to be removed.
"Recent investigations confirm that he has a grossly dilated non-functioning right kidney and ureter, which is a consequence of previous surgery," Mushtaq said in his medical report.
Abdel-Rahman is expected to stay in hospital for a period of seven to 10 days.
He then needs a further two weeks of recovery at home and should return three weeks after the surgery for post-operative treatment, according to the report.
The child has been suffering hugely since he was two years old, his father told Ahram Online.
