A mother gave birth to conjoined twins at el-Shatby Education Hospital Alexandria Monday night. Dr. Saber Wahib, Head of Pediatric Surgery, examined the twins, who were conjoined in a particularly rare and difficult way. The twins are conjoined at the chest and stomach and share an umbilical cord, which indicates that they shared a placenta as well. "This case is very rare, but it's the fourth case received by the hospital in the last three years due to environmental pollutants, which play a major role in increasing the rate of deformities,” said Wahib. After the twins, named Ingy and Nigar, were examined with TV rays and an ultrasound scan, doctors said it seems that they share one heart and liver, but separate kidneys, urinary systems, and genitalia, both internal and external. Other examinations will examine the twins' digestive system and major arteries and veins.
