Morocco warns CAF over potential 'harsh sanctions' Warnings of harsh sanctions against Morocco after their withdrawal from hosting the Africa Cup of Nations are heavily criticized by the North-African country
Morocco Sports' minister Mohamed Ouzzine has criticized the Confederation of African football (CAF) statement that said Morocco will be sanctioned over their withdrawal from hosting the biennial tournament. Morocco has asked the CAF to postpone the Nations Cup from early next year to 2016 because of the Ebola outbreak, and the possible threat of spreading the disease. However, the African governing body rejected the Moroccan request, insisting that the tournament will be held as scheduled. Reports suggested that CAF will impose harsh sanctions on Morocco but Ouzzine insisted that the North African country was rather forced to make that decision. "We haven't withdrawn from hosting the CAN," he told reporters on Wednesday. "We asked the CAF to postpone the tournament but they refused. The Moroccan government's primary concern is the health of its citizens," he added. Ouzzine said Morocco will take an action against the CAF if they imposed harsh sanctions, without elaborating further.
