Renowned Egyptian actress Mariam Fakhr Eddine passed away on Monday morning at a hospital in Cairo. Born on 8 January1933 in Fayoum, south of Cairo, to an Egyptian father and Hungarian mother, Fakhr Eddine died at the age of 81. She began her acting career early and came to prominence with one of her iconic film roles in Rudda Kalbi (1958) directed by Ezzel Dine Zulficar. Her career included over 200 movies, among the most important beingAl-Aydy Al-Naema, Soft Hands, Silent Love, and Hikayat Hob where she starred opposite iconic singer and actor Abdel-Halim Hafez. Acclaimed as one of the most beautiful Egyptian actresses of all times, Fakhr Eddine was labeled by the media “Hassna Al- Shasha” (The Screen's Beautiful Woman) She was married to filmmaker Mahmoud Zulficar (1914–1970) with whom she has one daughter, Iman.
