Swansea aim to tie down Ivorian striker Bony to long-term deal
Published in Ahram Online on 18 - 10 - 2014

English Premier League side Swansea City are set to offer Wilfried Bony a new contract to rebuff interest from Liverpool and Tottenham, who are reportedly seeking to sign the Ivorian international striker in January.
Bony, who joined Swansea in summer 2013, is under contract until 2017 but the Swansea officials want to ditch the £19m-release clause in his contract.
“I don't know the inner details. All I can say is that, in terms of selling a player, it will only happen if it was a good deal for Swansea City. But Wilf is a player we want to keep and I think (a new contract) is something we'd like to sort out as a club," Coach Garry Monk told Skysports.
“We've not had any talks as yet and we'd want to sit down with Wilfried and speak to him and his representatives and see what the situation is.
“He's a very good professional, one of our best, trains very hard, is very committed and if that situation comes up – which is great for us and a compliment to the club – it will show the question marks over the summer can be put to bed.
“I'm not naïve enough to think there aren't players who want to go to bigger clubs, but I think he likes it here and knows he's at a good club," he concluded.
The 25-year-old striker is a proven goal-scorer, having finished on top of the scorers chart of the Dutch Royal League in 2013 before joining Swansea City and scoring 16 goals on his debut season.
He also became the number one striker in Ivory Coast, replacing retired icon Didier Drogba.
