Egypt's injured goalkeeper Ekramy starts rehab Ahly goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy doesn't need surgery, only a rehab programme to recover from cartilage pains, says club doctor
Ahly's first choice goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy started his rehab programme on Thursday to recover from cartilage pains that have sidelined him from the Egyptian national team's squad ahead of its Botswana clash in the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Ahly keeper underwent medical scans that showed he isn't suffering from a serious injury and that he only needs to undergo a rehab programme to recover from the cartilage pains. "Ekramy started his rehab on Thursday for four days as he will undergo medical tests on Monday to determine his availability for training," Ahly football director Wael Gomaa was quoted as saying on the club's official website. "Medical scans have shown that Ekramy's knee injury doesn't need surgery and he will continue his rehab until he recovers from the pains," Gomaa concluded. Ekramy has been Egypt's regular shot-stopper since veteran keeper Essam El-Hadary fell out with the national team last year. But Egypt will have to do without Ekramy when they face Botswana on Friday, a crucial match as they risk missing out on a Nations Cup place for a third successive time after opening their qualifying campaign with two losses to Senegal and Tunisia.
