A bomb blast hit a government office Thursday afternoon in Egypt's Nile Delta, leaving two injured, Aswat Masriya reported. Unknown assailants on a motorbike threw a bag containing a bomb near the municipal governor's office in Gharbiya governorate, north of Cairo. Two security personnel were wounded in the bombing, including Gharbiya security chief, Mohamed Rizk, and a security guard. One of the men is said to be in a critical condition. Attacks and bombings targeting security forces have been commonplace in recent months in Egypt amid an Islamist insurgency against the government. Late in September, a bomb blast near Egypt's foreign ministry headquarters in downtown Cairo killed two policemen, after a month-long lull in violence targeting the capital. Militants based in the Sinai Peninsula have killed hundreds of police and military personnel since, with some Jihadist groups claiming they are avenging a state crackdown that killed hundreds of Islamists and jailed thousands of others. Their attacks have also led to civilian casualties.
