A retired military officer has been shot dead in Al-Arish, North Sinai. Unidentified gunmen opened fire at Brigadier General Reda Mohamed Ramzi, striking him in the neck, a security source told Aswat Masriya. Ramzi was the head of Misr El-Kheir charity, according to Al-Shorouk daily. The attack took place in Al-Khazan Street in the western part of the city. No one claimed responsibility for the attack yet. On Friday, four people were killed in three explosions in the restiveSinaiPeninsula and Cairo. An Egyptian Islamist militant group, Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, has claimed responsibility on Sunday for the twin suicide bombings that killed three people and wounded eight. Militant attacks targeting security personnel have been commonplace since the army's ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last summer amid massive protests against his year-long rule. Almost 500 people, mostly policemen and soldiers, have been killed in militant attacks, including bombings and shootings. In recent months, the attacks which initially erupted in Sinai, have spread to Cairo and the Nile Delta. Islamist militants say their operations are in revenge for a crackdown against Morsi's Islamist supporters that has killed hundreds and jailed thousands. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/100427.aspx
