Algeria bid for 2017 Africa Cup of Nations After failing to win the bid to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the Algerians have joined the race to host the 2017 tournament, after Libya was forced to pull out
Algeria made an official bid to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, the Algerian sports ministry announced on Tuesday. The continental tournament was stripped from Libya for security reasons as ongoing fighting caused delays to the construction of new stadiums for the 16-team tournament. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) invited new bidders for the tournament in August. The North African country also made a bid to host the 2019 tournament but Cameroon won the race. Algeria hosted the tournament in 1990, when they won their sole continental title. Placing bids alongside Algeria are Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Egypt. Countries wishing to host the tournament have until 30 September to submit their bids.
