Smouha run riot, Masry, Ismaily play out thrilling draw in Egyptian league Smouha record emphatic opening win, while Masry hold Ismaily in a thrilling Canal Derby clash
Last season's runners-up Smouha made a high-flying start to their new Egyptian Premier League campaign, registering an emphatic 5-1 victory over newcomers Damanhour. Ex-Zamalek and Ahly frontman Hany El-Egeizy had a day to remember, bagging a brace and dishing out three assists in his side's thumping win. The Alexandrians went to the dressing rooms two up, thanks to goals from former Zamalek midfielder Alaa Ali and ex-Gaish striker Salah Amin. El-Egaizy notched his first of the match six minutes into the second half before Amin made it four goals just two minutes later. The newly-promoted side then pulled one back from the spot through Hamada El-Ghanam in the 56th minute before El-Egeizy completed the rout on 72minutes. The win took Smouha, last season's Egypt Cup finalists, to second spot following Gaish's 5-0 win against another promoted outfit in El-Nasr a day earlier. Hamdi bags double, Ismaily held by Masry Another former Ahly man to have a stunning game was El-Sayed Hamdi, whose brace helped Maqassa to a 2-1 win over Ragaa. Hamdi scored a goal either side of the interval, as newly-signed veteran keeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed conceded a goal through Mohamed El-Fayoumi in the 49th minute. The final match of the day saw Masry and Ismaily play out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Canal Derby, after the Dervishes let slip a two-goal lead. Summer-signing Nigerian-born Sudanese striker Kelechi Osunwa broke the deadlock in the 34th minute with a brilliant finish, before John Antwi made it two just five minutes later. The Dervishes, however, were pegged back by a spotkick goal, which beat Ex-Egypt first-choice keeper Essam El-Hadary, from Mohamed Yehia in the 75th minute before former Ahly forward Ahmed Raouf notched the equalizer with seven minutes remaining.
