Corruption charges against Mubarak-era TV chief dropped
Prosecutors say corruption allegations against Osama El-Sheikh, former head of Egypt's state broadcaster, are 'groundless'

Osama El-Sheikh, the head of state TV under the regime of Hosni Mubarak, will not face trial over allegations of squandering public funds, Administrative Prosecution spokesman Abdel-Nasser Khattab said in a statement on Monday.
Khattab said investigations carried out by the technical department of the prosecutor's office proved that accusations that El-Sheikh signed an overvalued contract to buy a TV series without consent from the state broadcaster's purchasing committee were "groundless."
El-Sheikh was released from police custody in January 2013 on LE50,000 ($7,790) bail. He was arrested, along with Mubarak's information minister Anas El-Feqqi, in February 2012 as part of a probe into political corruption during the Mubarak era.
El-Feqqi was released on bail in 2012 and is still being tried for corruption charges.
Several Mubarak-era officials and ruling party members have been recently released from custody pending trials, the latest being steel-magnate and now-defunct National Democratic Party leader Ahmed Ezz, who was released in August after paying LE100 million bail.
