Egypt coach confident ahead of Senegal clash
Shawky Gharib praises his team after the Pharoahs' last friendly ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
Published in Ahram Online on 31 - 08 - 2014

Egypt's national team coach Shawky Gharib has expressed satisfaction over the Pharaohs' 1-0 win against Kenya in Aswan in their last warm-up before facing Senegal in the Nations Cup qualifiers 5 September.
"I am 100 percent happy about my team technically, physically and even ethically after only six days' preparation," Gharib stated on a TV sports programme Saturday.
Amr Gamal, who came on as a second-half substitute, scored the winner 10 minutes after the restart.
"I selected a group of 15 players for Kenya's game, including four substitutes, a goalkeeper, and they all proved their worth," Gharib said.
"Some players played the full 90 minutes and I am very happy about their performance. They are becoming better game after game." he added.
Gharib — who won the CAN three times in a row (2006, 2008 and 2010) as an assistant to coach Hassan Shehata — is bidding for a return to the top. The team missed the last two editions in 2012 and 2013 under Shehata and American manager Bob Bradley respectively.
"Obviously, there is a clear difference between players who play regularly and others who are out of action," the coach added.
"The match rhythm was faster in the second half because of the appearance of Ahly and Zamalek players, who are physically ready as they were competing in continental championships with their clubs."
In the 2015 CAN qualifiers, Egypt will play in Group G along with Tunisia, Senegal and Botswana. The Pharoahs are scheduled to be hosted by the Senegalese team 5 September in the qualifiers opener.
"Any player must value the Egyptian jersey. We must know its value," Gharib concluded.
