On Monday, downtown Cairo will see the arrival of yet another highly anticipated art space, this time focused on street art and dubbed “Heytan” (Walls). Founded by Egyptian commentator and former parliamentary candidate Mahmoud Salem, known widely by his blog nom de plume Sandmonkey, and by graffiti artist El-Mosheer, Heytan will open with a mixed media exhibition on street vendors by Mohamed El-Moshr and Amira El-Asmar. The exhibition is a result of a three-month research project as well as existing projects between the artists and street vendors. Heytan has been a project in the making for more than two years. It aims to be a space for street art, hosting workshops and lectures in addition to supporting artists in production and documentation. Programme: Heytan opens on Monday 23 June at 7pm 17 Gawad Hosny Street, Downtown Cairo http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/104066.aspx
