Egypt discourages Israel from 'further escalation' against Palestine Israeli troops killed a 20-year-old Palestinian in the West Bank during its manhunt for three Israeli settlers who were kidnapped last Thursday
Egypt is calling on Israeli authorities to exercise 'self-restraint' with Palestine following the abduction of three Israelis four days ago. In a statement on Monday, Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Badr Abdel-Ati said there is no need for further escalation, warning against allowing the situation to spiral out of control, reported Al-Ahram's Arabic news website. In its search for the kidnapped, which has been focused on the southern West Bank city of Hebron, Israel arrested dozens of Palestinians, including parliament speaker and Hamas member Aziz Dweik. The three Israelis, aged 16-19, disappeared Thursday night from the Jewish-only settlement of Gush Etzion. Israel has accused Hamas of being behind the incident, an accusation that the Islamist movement vehemently denied. According to the Ma'an Palestinian news website, Israel has vowed to continue surrounding Hebron and nearby territories, erecting checkpoints and raiding houses -- restricting the movement of over 20,000 Palestinian workers and businessmen who work in Israel -- until it receives further information on the three missing Israelis. On Sunday night, Israeli forces killed 20-year-old Ahmed Arafat Al-Jalazun and injured two others during a raid on Al-Jalazun refugee camp north of Ramallah in central West Bank, reported Ma'an. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/103841.aspx
