Security forces seal off Ain Shams University, deploy vehicles on campus Students protested death of colleague and reportedly vandalise faculty of computer science
Security forces sealed off roads leading to Ain Shams University on Saturday as students protested the recent death of a colleague. The university has permitted security forces to deploy armored vehicles on campus. Mohamed Ayman, a student at the faculty of computer science, died on Wednesday from injuries he sustained during clashes with security forces in front of the university a day before. The dean of the faculty, Mohamed Ismail Roushdy, told reporters the protesters vandalised the faculty building, smashed its labs, torched its library contents, and sacked his personal office. The faculty's exams had been postponed the day after Ayman's death to 31 May to allow students to mourn for their colleague, Roushdy added. Students have staged near-daily protests across the country since the start of the academic year in September to denounce interim authorities, support Morsi, and to call for the release of colleagues detained by security forces. University students are currently sitting their end-of-year examinations, which have been overshadowed by fears of a recurrence of the violence that interrupted mid-year exams, specifically at Al-Azhar University in Cairo. Pro-Morsi students have been at the heart of the Brotherhood's defiance of interim authorities amid a security crackdown that has rendered unplanned street demonstrations illegal and has left hundreds of its members dead and thousands detained, including the group's top leadership. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/101519.aspx
