Clashes dispersed by police at Cairo University
Students tried to protest outside campus gates when they were surrounded by security forces
Published in Ahram Online on 15 - 05 - 2014

Clashes between students supporting ousted president Mohamed Morsi and security forces were broken up on Thursday in front of Cairo University, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported.
Security forces surrounded the students, who had organised a protest outside the campus gates.
The demonstration comes a day after a student from Ain Shams University, Mohamed Ayman, died from injuries sustained during clashes with security forces at the university on Tuesday.
Students have staged near-daily protests at universities across the country since the start of the academic year in September to denounce the government and army and call for the release of colleagues detained by security forces.
The protests have often ended with violent confrontations with security forces, who in February were granted the right to enter university campuses thanks to a decree passed by Egypt's cabinet.
Authorities have also given university administrators the right to expel protesting students.
As a result, many students at Cairo University and Al-Azhar University have been dismissed and banned from taking their final exams for taking part in the violent clashes.
Pro-Morsistudents have been at the heart of the Muslim Brotherhood's defiance of interim authorities, especially after the group's street presence fizzled significantly amid a security crackdown that has left hundreds of its members dead and thousands detained, including the group's top leadership.
