The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has rejected Zamalek's appeal to overturn their 4-2 league defeat at Petrojet after the latter's fans allegedly broke the crowd ban imposed by the football governing body. After seeing a 1-1 home draw with Haras El-Hodoud overruled in favour of the military side due to the violation of a stadium ban by Zamalek fans early in the season, the Whites were hopeful for another 2-0 walkover win following the Petrojet loss. EFA's Appeals Committee, however, announced that the 4-2 result will stand, depriving Zamalek of a win that could have sent them directly to the league playoffs, alongside leaders Ittihad El-Shorta, with one match to spare. Zamalek are currently third in Group B on 32 points, three adrift of Ittihad El-Shorta and only one clear of Ismaily as qualification for the final mini-league phase goes down to the wire. The winners and runners-up of Group A and B qualify for the four-team mini-league phase, which determines the champion of the 2013-14 Premier League season.
