The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has offered its condolences to the families of those killed in clashes after a match in the Congolese capital Kinshasa. "CAF President Issa Hayatou has expressed his deep sorrow at the tragic deaths," reads a statement published on the Confederation's official website on Monday. According to Kinshasa governor Andre Kimbuta, 15 people died and 21 were injured when police fired teargas to disperse rioting fans following a play-off between ASV Club and Tout Puissant Mazembe on Sunday. The CAF asked the Congolese football federation to give it a full briefing on the incident. "The African football fraternity was deeply saddened by the incident and has reiterated the determination of the governing body of African football to combat all forms of violence in the game," Hayatou said. "Personally, and on behalf of the members of the African football community, I should be grateful if you could extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends and loved ones. Further, we wish those that have been reported injured and receiving medical assistance a full recovery," he added.
