Candidates turn to judiciary over parliamentary election results
Published in Youm7 on 03 - 12 - 2011

CAIRO: A total of 75 candidates will file lawsuits to nullify the first stage of parliamentary elections in Cairo's first district. The suit will be filed in the administrative court, said Fekry Mustafa, one candidates in Cairo's first district.
Fekry said the complaint will be filed instantly to cease the results of the first district's elections, since they were manipulated and forged on Monday December 28. When the head of the committee decided to leave the counting stations and left the boxes without any protection, it affected the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
The candidates asked to be compensated with 200,000 EGP since the boxes were not secured.
Also Coptic Chrisitian candidate Majda Naguib Akhnoua in Cairo's first electoral district submitted a complaint against the head of the Supreme Electoral Committee (SEC).
Naguib mentioned in the complaint the boxes were left alone from 2:00 A.m. until 5:00 P.M, which is considered as fraud, since rival candidates could open the boxes and manipulate the results.
Former leader in the Kefaya political group George Ishak said he will appeal against the result of the elections when he ran against Muslim Brotherhood candidate Akram Al Shaer in Port Said.
Isaac said the reason behind the success of his rival's supporters' were violations during the elections.
Isaac also demanded abolishing the fine imposed by the military council on those who will not vote, since it created a counter result because the people went to vote without having any idea who they should vote for.
Prominent Muslim scholar al-Qaradawi said the triumph of the Islamic powers in Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt is justified since Islamists were persecuted by the former oppressive regimes. When opportunity was available for the people to choose, they chose the Islamists without any intimidations or forgery.
Al-Qaradawi expected Islamic powers will achieve the same victory throughout all Arab states, since people have the right to choose their representatives in the parliament. He also said the feeling of piousness in these states are very strong.
