CAIRO: About five percent of the 18,000 polling stations open today suffered some problems, reported Abdel Moez Ibrahim, the head of the Supreme Electoral Committee (SEC). “The SEC is attempting to resolve these problems,” Ibrahim said. “The Egyptian Ministry of the Interior is responsible for the delay in delivering ballots to the polling stations on time,” Ibrahim continued, adding that he had been in touch with the ministry over these delays. “The Interior Ministry blamed the delays on the poor weather,” he added. Ibrahim claims to have instructed all judges who receive ballots late to extend the voting period. “I'm confident that the army and police forces can secure the elections through Tuesday,” Ibrahim noted.
