CAIRO: Voting in the parliamentary elections is the duty of all Egyptians and boycotting the elections is tantamount to concealing one's testimony, said Yusef al-Qaradawi, the head of the Union of Muslim Scholars, during his meeting with Al-Azhar Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb. “Egypt will witness its most important period tomorrow during the first phase of the parliamentary elections to transparently elect a civil government,” al-Qaradawi said. In a press conference following the meeting, al-Qaradawi called on all Egyptians to vote in the historic moment and not sell himself or herself out to any one person. “Each Egyptian citizen should chose he or she whom he sees as the best for his country,” he said, adding that the candidates should respect all religions. He called on those protesting in Egypt to also vote, claiming that the people in Egypt will build the nation. He also thanked Al-Azhar for its role in guidance.
