CAIRO: Several political parties today said that the appointment of Kamal el-Ganzouri as prime minister is a typical reaction by the Supreme Council of the Egyptian Armed Forces (SCAF) and is a continuation of old policies. This appointment neglects the demands of the protestors and proves that the military council employs the wrong policies, the parties continued. Power must be transferred to an elected civil authority by April 2012 and a government of national salvation must be established to usher in this change. Therefore, the military must return to its real role and strictly protect the nation's borders. The political parties demand that such a government be tasked with the establishment of a committee to investigate the recent incidents, the execution of a clear security plan to eradicate lawlessness, and the elimination of corrupt elements in Egyptian ministries and media. On the other hand, Human Rights and Citizenship Party Chairman Ahmed Gamal today rejected these positions, claiming that el-Ganzouri is an economic expert and will prove invaluable in solving the economic crisis. “We cannot reject every person from the former regime because the entire State is the former regime,” Gamal added.
