Arabic: كمال الجنزوري Born: January 12, 1933 Current and former Prime Minister Dr. Kamal el-Ganzouri was appointed prime minister by Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces on November 25, 2011. Ganzouri's appointment came after the previous government of Essam Sharaf resigned in response to a week of mass demonstrations and violenct clashes calling for a transition to civilian government. Ganzouri is most known for serving as prime minister under former President Hosni Mubarak from 1996 to 1999. During his tenure he appointed former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly, who along with Mubarak was a primary target of Egypt's January 25 Revolution. Ganzouri's appointment was met with significant resistance or outright refusal from demonstrators in Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square. Ganzouri earned a degree in agriculture from Cairo University and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan. His civil service career mostly spans economic advisory positions as well as serving in the Egyptian executive branch. He was an economic advisor to the Arab Bank for Economic Development and former president Anwar Sadat before heading into executive positions. Ganzouri was the governor of el-Wadi el-Gadid in 1976, before serving as governor of Beni Suef in 1977. He rose through government quickly during Hosni Mubarak's administration. He was Mubarak's deputy prime minister from 1986 to 1996 before becoming Premier.
