QENA, Egypt: The National Association for Change in Qena, Upper Egypt, staged a peaceful march after evening prayers tonight. The march was in protest of the violent crackdown by Egyptian police on protesters in Tahrir Square and elsewhere in Egypt, said NAC Coordinator Ahmed Abdel Rahim. Neither the Salafis nor Gama'a al-Islamiyya will participate in the march, he added. Activists in Damietta, in the Nile Delta, also staged a march. The April 6 Movement organized the march, which also in protest of the violence clashes in Tahrir that have left at least 35 dead and thousands injured. The protesters raised slogans against the security's thuggery used against the protesters. They called for a timetable for handing over authority from the ruling military council to a civil presidential council. Some anarchists infiltrated the march and caused a state of chaos that lasted for 30 minutes, some of the protesters said. Arabic here
