Eritreans in Israel will demonstrate against organ trafficking in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula outside the United States Embassy in Tel-Aviv on Friday. Recent reports by Youm7, CNN and other media have revealed that many African migrants, particularly Eritreans, have been trafficked for their organs in the Sinai and often left to die in the desert. “This recent horrific report joins existing reports of wide-spread rape and sex trafficking of female asylum seekers, torture, and blackmail that happens to our people en route to Israel through the Sinai desert,” said a press release about the planned demonstration. The protest is organized by Eritrean Youth for Revolution and Democracy, a grassroots movement dedicated to fighting for the human rights of Eritreans. The group has decided to protest outside the American Embassy because it feels the “world's only superpower” can help Eritreans both in their home country and in Sinai. “We are calling on the US government to put pressure on the Egyptian government to respect and enforce international laws and conventions in their territory concerning the rights of refugees and asylum seekers and forbidding all forms of trafficking in women and organs,” said organizer Filimon Rezene in a statement.
