CAIRO: Chancellor Wael Hussein of North Cairo's Public Prosecutions office released 50 demonstrators who were arrested during clashes between security forces and Tahrir Square demonstrators on Tuesday night, pending investigations in to their cases. Chief Prosecutor Islam Ramadan and director of public prosecutions Ahmad Rashad charged the demonstrators with 5 charges including public property destruction, attacking a public servant while on the job, wounding officers and soldiers, and the disruption of traffic. Some of the accused said in their statements to prosecutors that other demonstrators threw stones at police, prompting officers to fire tear gas at them. Others accused the police of firing first. Abdeen court is witnessing the investigation of 22 other protestors who were arrested.
