CAIRO: The Muslim Brotherhood will not participate in a sit-in in Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square, according to official spokesman Mohamed Ghazlan. Ghazlan said the attacks against protesters in the square are planned to drag as much as possible from the Egyptian citizens to Tahrir Square so Egypt's democratic transition can be postponed. Ghazlan said that the incidents have exposed a plan to abolish the parliamentary elections. "Why have the security forces showed up now, and where were they during the lawlessness in the past months?" he asked. Ghazlan said that Egypt's ruling military council has monopolized all the authorities, and therefore political powers should be keen to take these authorities from the military as soon as possible. Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie called earlier today for an emergency meeting to issue a statement condemning the bloody Tahrir clashes and placed blame the military council for the violence that has left at least 22 dead.
