Hundreds of demonstrators tonight gathered outside the North Military region in Alexandria to protest the violent crackdown on demonstrators in Tahrir Square by the Egyptian Central Security Forces. The members of the CSF earlier had forcibly dispersed demonstrators staging a sit-in by deploying tear gas and rubber bullets. The demonstrators in Alexandria chanted against Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, chief of the Egyptian Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), and the Interior Ministry. “Activists in Alexandria gathered outside the military region in Sedi Gaber and called for the military council to step down from power and deliver it to a civilian authority,” said Ahmed Fahmy, the coordinator of the April 6 Youth Movement in Alexandria. The demonstrators are members of the April 6 Youth Movement, Revolutionary Socialists, and the Youth for Justice and Freedom. There was a clear absence of members from the Revolution's Youth Coalition or from the Freedom and Justice Party or Salafi Party.
