Investor proposes massive development project
Published in Youm7 on 18 - 11 - 2011

CAIRO: Egyptian Businessman Mohammad Kamal Abdel Hadi proposed a project aiming to irrigate 25 million acres of the Egyptian Western desert without any burdens on the public budget to the Egyptian government.
The project aims at reclaiming 25 million acres on the western desert, beginning from the South Lake of the High Dam at Aswan to the west of Alexandria for the right branch of the project. The left branch will reach west of Matrouh.
The majority of this land will be cultivated with imported crops like wheat, corn, and soybeans. The project would also include raising cattle and livestock for meat and dairy products.
Fifty-five housing units will be built on the banks of the waterway along with social, health, and educational services.
An advisor to the Minister of Planning, Ashraf al-Arabi, said such major projects need a lot of time to be considered to ensure they achieve the public interest.
The project should be mulled in terms of priority, especially projects requiring large investments, he added.
