The Japanese government decided to give the Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation U.S. $12 million to rehabilitate water pumping stations implemented by the Japanese along the course of the Nile River. Japan's grant to Egypt also aimed to develop the large lift station pumps responsible for irrigating the agricultural projects in Toshki. Japan also aimed to contribute support and to develop the Egyptian vital developmental sectors, especially the agricultural sector to raise the living standards of citizens. This was mentioned in the report received by the Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hisham Kandil from the head of the Mechanical and Electrical Department Tarek Sharaf on Tuesday November 14. The report included the outcomes of discussions followed by visits to the sites by some Japanese government representatives and specialized companies of establishing pumping stations of water and sewage. Tarek Sharaf said the committee of Japanese experts agreed to include rehabilitation and upgrading of engineers, technical personnel and operating assistants in the grant agreement. He added the committee aimed to increase the performance and current quality by 70 percent, which will contribute and provide 10 million EGP (U.S. $1.7 million). Arabic here
