ARISH: The head of the security directorate in North Sinai governorate, Major General Saleh al-Masry, affirmed on Monday morning that the leader of the radical Islamist group "Takfir wal Hijra" (Excommunication and Exodus), Mohamed Eid al-Teehi, is to be sent to Cairo for questioning regarding various cases. He added that Teehi would be referred to military prosecutors as he is accused of killing police and army officers. Teehi's tribe did not comment on his arrest. One of the tribe's Sheikhs, who requested immunity, said that he is afraid that security forces accused Teehi of crimes without proof to close outstanding cases. Naeem Gabr, an activist from Sinai, said that Teehi cannot be accused without being interrogated before prosecution. He also warned that the government should not turn any Bedouin into a terrorist or a criminal without any proof. Security sources said Teehi was arrested in a flat in the Masaeed neighborhood of Arish. The sources added that Teehi is believed to be the leader of "Black Banners.” The organization, which was announced after the January 25 revolution, proclaimed an Islamic emirate in Sinai that sought to dismiss all police and army forces from Sinai.
