Egyptian presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh affirmed his rejection of Ali el-Selmy's document, as it was issued by parties that do not have any democratic legitimacy entitling them to issue such a document, in a statement issued Sunday. Aboul Fotouh said he rejects the ninth and tenth articles of document, because they provide the armed forces with the authority above the people's. He also rejected the standards used to form the constituent assembly. He said the standards would keep the army as the guardian over the process of drafting the constitution, giving it the right to block the constitution. Aboul Fotouh agreed with the articles regarding freedoms and human rights. He also held reservations about the articles dealing with the economic and justice issues, saying they were biased against the poor. The candidate also called political forces to participate in the Nov. 18 million man protest to reject the document as a setback for the January 25 Revolution and an attempt to seize power from the people's hands.
