SOHAG, Egypt: The dispute between the two Egyptian villages in Sohag, Upper Egypt has settled when one of the disputed families accepted the condolences for their son's death. The wise men of both villages, Awlad Khalaf and Awlad Yahya, are trying to reach final reconciliation to end this crisis. Life returned back to normal and workers went back to their jobs while students went back to their schools. The crisis broke out when two guys from both villages quarreled over gambling on first day of the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha. The relatives of both young men clashed with each other and when tension escalated, Awlad Yahya residents opened fire on residents of Awlad Khalaf, surrounded the village and burnt their farms. Residents of Awlad Yahya formed checkpoints to control the movement from and to the village of Awlad Khalaf because most villages around Khalifa are affiliated to Yahya. Gunfire broke between both sides and police forces failed to control the fight so were forced to use the tear gas bombs to disperse them. A curfew was thus imposed in the area. The clashed resulted in one dead and 25 injured.
