CAIRO: Egyptian presidential candidate Mohamed el-Baradei flew to Tunisia to attend a ceremony to grant the president of the Republic of Cape Verde, Pedro Pires, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation award, valued at U.S. $5 million (29.8 million EGP). The Mo Ibrahim Foundation was established in 2006 to support good governance and leadership in Africa. El-Baradei's trip comes after activity on Facebook pages supporting his candidacy stopped. Updates on both the "I am el-Baradei," and "The Popular Campaign to Support el-Baradei in Minya" were frozen. The activity was frozen to protest the neglect of el-Baradei's regional supporters by his campaign's central administration in Cairo. While in Tunisia, el-Baradei will participate in a symposium about farming in Africa to discuss self-sufficiency on the continent. The former IAEA director will also meet with several Tunisian figures to discuss the Tunisian experience of democratization.
