BERLIN — Germany is threatening "new, stronger sanctions" against Iran if it refuses to answer international questions about its nuclear program, but firmly rejects any military action. German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Wednesday called the report of the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency on Tehran's suspected experiments aimed solely at developing nuclear arms "alarming." He says Germany is speaking with its European and international partners to discuss a new round of stronger sanctions, calling them "unavoidable." President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the world is being misled by the report on its nuclear program. The U.S., along with its European allies, claims that Iran is working to develop nuclear weapons amid fears that a nuclear-armed Iran could touch off an arms race among rival states.
