ASWAN, Egypt: Security forces in Aswan today detained a 25-year-old man named Atef who attempted to thwart a traffic stop by shooting toward police officers Upon inspection the car was found to be carrying a number of automatic weapons and 400 bullets, all of which were allegedly smuggled from the Libyan border. The prosecution was notified of the incident. The Aswan security authority, headed by Assistant Minister of the Interior Hassan Mohamed, recently beefed up its presence on the desert roads and entrances and exits to the governorate in response to a weapons and drug trade ramp-up.
