CAIRO: Egyptian political activist and coordinator of the “My Vote is My Demand” campaign Samir Alesh today said that the military council will issue a decree to help expatriate Egyptians vote abroad. The military council will provide Egyptian ambassadors and consuls the judicial authority to supervise the elections abroad. The officials will then be responsible for sending the results to the Supreme Committee of Elections. “A decree will be issued to provide a solution for expatriate Egyptians, which will solve the problem of simply sending voters' cards to the Supreme Committee to be sorted,” Alish said after a meeting yesterday at the Council of Ministries. “Egyptian communities abroad are being informed to register at the Supreme Committee's website (www.elections2011.eg), where they will have a week to do so, starting November 10,” Alish continued. Alish also said that Facebook and Twitter campaigns have been launched to recruit political activists like Wael Ghonim, who founded the Khaled Said Facebook page, which is thought to be in part responsible for the January 25 Revolution. A ministerial committee, headed by Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, is currently studying the possibility of expatriate Egyptian voting.
