The head of the Supreme Committee for Elections will push to change a constitutional article that currently makes it impossible for Egyptians abroad to vote in the critical November elections Judge Abdel Moez Ibrahim, head of the Supreme Committee for Elections, said he is taking the necessary procedures to add a new article to the constitutional declaration that will allow Egyptians living abroad to vote in this month's parliamentary elections. One of the barriers that could prevent expatriate Egyptians from voting is Article 39 of the declaration on the constitution made in March after a national referendum. It stipulates that voting must be under judicial supervision. The article must be amended in order for expats to vote in order to allow Egyptian embassies abroad to fill the responsibility of the judiciary. Ibrahim said he is seeking to give embassies and consuls that authorisation to supervise ballot abroad, so foreign-based Egyptians can cast their votes in parliamentary elections. The judge also wants to introduce another legislation that will clarify expatriate Egyptians' political rights. Egyptians abroad were finally given permission to vote in this month's anticipated elections after prolonged talks.
